A foundational review of proposed mechanisms and early animal and clinical research into brain-directed PBM.

What to keep in mind

This narrative review brings together heterogeneous, often preliminary evidence. Biological mechanisms and animal findings do not prove clinical benefit or safety. It predates newer trials and is not a pediatric safety study or a treatment guide.

Research information is not a prescription. Long-term pediatric transcranial PBM safety is not established by these studies; adult evidence is not a substitute for pediatric evidence. Use only under qualified clinical guidance, with device-specific safety review.
