A review of how light travels through animal and human head tissues, including variability between species and measurement methods.

What to keep in mind

This is a review of penetration measurements, not a clinical safety trial. Animal measurements cannot be assumed to apply to humans. Light reaching tissue does not by itself establish clinical benefit, safe exposure or safety for a developing brain.

Research information is not a prescription. Long-term pediatric transcranial PBM safety is not established by these studies; adult evidence is not a substitute for pediatric evidence. Use only under qualified clinical guidance, with device-specific safety review.
