A review of 20 studies examining PBM for oral mucositis in pediatric patients, including prevention and management evidence.
What to keep in mind
The review reports generally favorable findings and no adverse effects reported in the included studies, while calling for higher-quality evidence. Absence of reported harm is not proof of safety, particularly when reporting and follow-up vary. Oral mucositis care does not establish safety or effectiveness for brain-directed treatment.
Research information is not a prescription. Long-term pediatric transcranial PBM safety is not established by these studies; adult evidence is not a substitute for pediatric evidence. Use only under qualified clinical guidance, with device-specific safety review.
