A systematic review of light-based treatment for painful oral mucositis in children and young people receiving cancer care.

What to keep in mind

The review suggests reductions in mucositis severity and oral pain, but calls for further randomized trials. The studies are small and heterogeneous, and safety reporting is limited. These findings concern oral supportive care in oncology—not light applied to the brain—and cannot establish pediatric transcranial PBM safety.

Research information is not a prescription. Long-term pediatric transcranial PBM safety is not established by these studies; adult evidence is not a substitute for pediatric evidence. Use only under qualified clinical guidance, with device-specific safety review.
