A 2026 scoping review examining the small pediatric cerebral palsy evidence base, developing-brain considerations and gaps in safety reporting.

What to keep in mind

The review identified only five studies and describes weak methods, inconsistent reporting and a lack of sham-controlled blinded trials and pediatric-specific safety protocols. Its authors consider tPBM for pediatric cerebral palsy spasticity experimental and advise restricting it to rigorously controlled research trials. It does not establish effectiveness or safety.

Research information is not a prescription. Long-term pediatric transcranial PBM safety is not established by these studies; adult evidence is not a substitute for pediatric evidence. Use only under qualified clinical guidance, with device-specific safety review.
